The Club at Hokuli'a, located on the beautiful Kona Coast, is the one and only private ocean-side golf club on the Big Island. Nicklaus Signature Design in the Hualalai Resort is the first on the island designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Occupying 7,100-yard of area, the eighteen-hole course once hosted the annual Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Boasting breathtaking views of the course and ocean, it offers three pupu and drinks stations to ensure a lively game.
The Mauna Kea course on the Kohala Coast, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., was christened by the "Big Three", Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player and remains the golden standard by which other island courses are judged. It spans 7,370 yards with elevation ranges from zero to 300 feet above sea level.
The North Course at the Mauna Lani Resort is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Built on a lava bed on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island, it spans 6,913 yards on rolling terrain, dotted with mesquite forests and herds of wild goats. Apart from unique setting to tee off, it's also embraced by calm winds and breathtaking views.
The Poipu Bay course features 85 bunkers, 5 water hazards and a sweeping backdrop of grassy mountains and scattered temple ruins. It hosted the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994-2006. It offers golf carts that are equipped with hands-free GPS maps, so you can get instantly acquainted with each hole. The resort also offers daily clinics and hosts group tournaments.
Prince Course at Princeville Golf Club, on Kauai's green North Shore, offers five sets of golf tees for various levels of ability. It's a good choice to challenge your talent and soak up the incredible local views. The black tees are the most difficult and reserved for players with a handicap of five or less, while others can play the red tees.
Makai Course at The St. Regis Princeville is visually stunning, with native lakes and woodlands, breathtaking ocean and mountain views, and a signature seventh hole that features a challenging tee shot over scenic cliffs. In 2008, it's upgraded by installing seashore paspalum turf grass and a salt-tolerant, warm season grass that provides golfers with faster, better playing surfaces.
Manele Golf Course, set dramatically above Hulopoe Bay at the Four Seasons Resort Lana'I, is a challenge to golfer of every level designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, as it has two holes built on cliffs where you must pitch the ball over the ocean to get to the green. During the winter, a pod of whales passing by from the fairway will add your visit more fun.
